The suspects allegedly struck at homes in Pilar de la Horadada and other municipalities in the Marina Alta area

As part of Operation MADERAS, the Guardia Civil managed to detain two people as the alleged burglars of homes in Pilar and municipalities in the Marina Alta such as Calpe, Benissa and Teulada, clearing up 10 offences so far.

The incidents stretch back to May, when there were a growing number of burglaries in homes in the Marina Alta that were connected with a car that was partially identified by some of the victims of these robberies. Guardia Civil set up a team to keep watch over the affected urbanisations intended to identify, locate and detain the author or authors of these robberies. While they were keeping watch on the 8th of June, a vehicle was located in a Calpe urbanisation that matched the description they had been given and was occupied by two men. When they were surprised by the officers, the men started to flee into the urbanisation at high speed. After coming off the road, they continued on foot through a wooded area, finally being intercepted and arrested but not after putting up serious resistance.

The arrested men go by the initials of A.B. and L.B., both 49 years old and of Algerian nationality. They are alleged to have to have committed a repeated offence of burglary and were inclined, when they were surprised, to engage in chases that put other road users in danger.

At the moment of their arrest, they were carrying about 400 euros in notes, electronic apparatus and other tools which it seems could have been used to carry out the offences. The suspects and the items seized were placed at the disposition of the Court of investigation number two in Dénia.
