Work on the AVE High Speed Train in Callosa de Segura will finish in the last quarter of 2014, announced mayor Javier Pérez on Friday

Work on the AVE High Speed Train in Callosa de Segura will finish in the last quarter of 2014, announced mayor Javier Pérez on Friday.

He said work has begun again because Rail Infrastructure Administrator ADIF is back up to date with its payments to the contractors.

Pérez met with representatives of the companies Hormigones Martínez, Tecsa y Dragados this week. They told him the delay in payments had been resolved and they would go back to work ‘at full capacity’.

“After resolving this contingency, the work will continue at its normal pace and in the coming weeks installation will begin of the beams for the south end viaduct,” he said.

He also indicated the north end «is very advanced» and the contract to build the Callosa-Cox station has been awarded.

The Madrid-Alicante AVE service will start running on the 18th of June, in time for the Costa Blanca city’s Hogueras fiestas from the 20th until the 24th of June, announced Minister for Development Ana Pastor on Thursday.

The quickest journeys will take 2 hours 20 minutes and tourist class tickets cost €62.50 each way but as special offer until June 25th, they will be half price. A season ticket for 10 trips works out at 42.50 each.

They go on sale on Monday and can be booked by internet or telephone or at rail ticket offices and travel agencies. Tourist Plus and Preferential seats are also available.
